Austrian Airlines continues to fly to the USA

• Direct flights to Chicago from Vienna will continue
• New York and Washington remain accessible via Frankfurt, Zurich and Brussels
• Customers are asked to check the status of their flight via austrian.com

Due to the new US regulations, according to which passengers from the European Union, Switzerland and other countries are no longer allowed to enter the country, Austrian Airlines is changing its flight schedule to the United States. From Saturday 14 March there will no longer be any direct flights from Vienna to the USA until further notice, with the exception of Chicago. New York (Newark/EWR) will remain accessible via the Lufthansa hub in Frankfurt and the SWISS hub in Zurich. Both airlines will also continue to fly to Chicago. Brussels Airlines will keep serving Washington via its hub. Affected passengers will be rebooked or receive a refund of their ticket price. However, passengers can still reach all destinations within the USA via the US hubs with a connecting flight of the partner airline United Airlines. Austrian Airlines flights to Montreal, Canada, are currently not affected.

“All passengers we are still allowed to transport in view of the US regulations will be brought to their desired destination. We will make sure of that with all our strength. Of course this also applies to Europeans who want to go home”, says Austrian Airlines CCO Andreas Otto.

Austrian Airlines chose Chicago as the remaining destination in the USA for two reasons. In addition to its hub function to other US destinations, the city is home to a large European community, especially from Eastern Europe. For this reason, Chicago is also the final destination for many Austrian Airlines passengers flying from Eastern Europe via Vienna to the USA.

In the current winter flight schedule, which is valid until the end of March, Austrian Airlines would have flown 23 times a week to the following destinations in the USA: Chicago, New York (JFK and EWR) and Washington. In the summer flight schedule, 39 flights per week are planned from today’s perspective. The seasonal summer destination Los Angeles will be back on the flight schedule from the end of March at this time. However, further measures, which also affect the summer flight schedule, cannot be ruled out at present.

Austrian Airlines asks all passengers who have booked a flight in the affected period to check the status of their flight on austrian.com under “My Bookings”. Customers, who have provided their telephone number or e-mail address during the booking process, as well as members of the frequent flyer program Miles & More, will be automatically informed of changes in the flight program by SMS or e-mail.
