The 16th Summer Paralympics will take place in Tokyo from 24 August to 5 September 2021. As the official carrier, Austrian Airlines is once again flying the Paralympic athletes non-stop to Japan. On 20 August, a large number of the athletes took off to Tokyo. Austrian Airlines COO Francesco Sciortino took the opportunity for a personal farewell directly on the apron.
“Our crew will fly the athletes and the Paralympic spirit with service excellence to Tokyo. As a proud partner of the Austrian Paralympic Committee, we wish all athletes all the best for the upcoming games”, said COO Francesco Sciortino before departure.
“Austrian Airlines stands for quality and red-white-red highs. Our athletes have set themselves high goals for the Paralympics in Tokyo. Sport and travel are both linked by emotion – that’s why this partnership is a perfect fit in many ways,” says ÖPC President Maria Rauch-Kallat.
Austrian Airlines will fly a total of 24 Austrian participants to the Paralympics in Japan over the next few days. The athletes represent Austria at the games in the sports of cycling, athletics, canoeing, riding, swimming, table tennis, triathlon and wheelchair tennis. Austrian Airlines currently flies from Vienna to Tokyo twice a week. The largest aircraft in the fleet – a Boeing 777 with over 300 seats – is used on the route.
