On 28 June, around 500,000 pupils in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland will start their well-deserved summer vacation after the distribution of their school reports. The remaining federal states follow a week later. This also marks the peak of the travel season for Austrian Airlines. On peak days, the home carrier handles around 20,000 Austrian Airlines passengers. To ensure a stress-free start to the vacation, a travel briefing is available on the Austrian Airlines website – a travel guide with everything you need to know to prepare for your trip.
Some important tips at a glance:
- Austrian App – well informed: With the Austrian app, pasengers have everything they need for their trip at a glance – from booking flights on the go, mobile check-in to additional services such as seat reservations, baggage information and up-to-date flight information via push notifications. They can also see whether FlyNet is available on the short-haul flight they have booked and relatives can check where their loved ones are at the moment, for example.
- Travel ID – one login with free messaging: With just one login you can register on all Austrian Airlines channels, those of the Lufthansa Group and Miles & More. Anyone who extends their existing Miles & More profile with the uniform Travel ID or registers for the first time benefits from free and unlimited messaging on selected Austrian Airlines short and medium-haul flights with internet on board.
- Using online services: To save valuable time at the airport, Austrian Airlines advises all passengers to use the online services on offer. For example, seats can be conveniently selected via web check-in from home or on the go using the Austrian App as early as 48 hours before departure.
- Note the baggage regulations: How much baggage passengers are allowed to take with them depends on the travel class, flight route, and booked fare. This information is quickly and easily available using the Austrian Airlines baggage calculator. To avoid long waiting times at security checkpoints, ensure smooth boarding, and enhance comfort on the plane, it is advisable to reduce carry-on baggage to the essentials and to consider the carry-on baggage regulations regarding number, size, and weight. It is possible to hand in carry-on baggage free of charge at the check-in counter.
- Baggage check-in made easy: The day-before check-in service allows you to check your bags on the day prior (24 hours before departure for flights to the USA). Additionally, in Vienna, you can have your luggage conveniently picked up from home and checked in by the Austrian Airlines partner Airportr. It is also recommended that both hand luggage and checked baggage are provided with an address tag (name, mobile phone number and e-mail address).
- Travelling with kids: For a successful start to the family vacation, preparations can be made even before the journey begins. Whether it’s seat reservations, children’s menus, country-specific entry requirements, bridging waiting times at the airport, entertainment on board or transport of strollers – the Austrian Airlines website provides a travel checklist with helpful information for your family vacation.
- Allow sufficient time: Austrian Airlines recommends planning for an early arrival at the airport. This ensures enough time for check-in and security checks even during periods of high passenger volume. Additionally, it is advisable to stay updated with the latest flight information. By entering the flight number on the website, passengers can access relevant information on the Austrian website in the flight status.
