ÖBB and Austrian Airlines expand AIRail service with Innsbruck

  • Innsbruck-Vienna added to the “AIRail” offering starting from December 15, 2024
  • From and to Linz/Salzburg/Innsbruck/Graz, all 125+ Austrian Airlines destinations can be reached with just one ticket for train and flight
  • The “AIRail” cooperation between ÖBB and Austrian Airlines has been in place for 10 years now
  • CCO Michael Trestl: “We are delighted that we will be able to expand the established and popular ‘AIRail’ service once again from 15 December and thus further intensify our multimodal transport partnership with ÖBB. We are thus taking another important step towards the best possible connection of the federal states to the Vienna hub.
  • Sabine Stock, ÖBB Executive Board Member for Passenger Transport: “Intermodal travel is on trend – this is happily reflected in the increase in passengers who choose to travel to and from Vienna Airport by train.”

“From train to flight” – this is the motto under which Austrian Airlines passengers can conveniently and easily use the joint ‘AIRail’ service offered by ÖBB and Austrian Airlines to travel to Vienna-Schwechat Airport from the cities of Linz, Graz and Salzburg. From December 15, this service will also be available from Innsbruck.

The “AIRail” offer from ÖBB and Austrian Airlines is also celebrating a very special milestone this year: its first “round” anniversary. Since December 2014, “AIRail” customers have been able to travel directly from Linz to Vienna Airport. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the cooperation. In 2017 and 2020, the “AIRail” offer was then expanded to include the cities of Salzburg and Graz. Since the end of 2023, all direct Railjets to and from Vienna Airport have also been included in the “AIRail” service. On December 15, 2024, Innsbruck will be added as another important milestone. With up to 13 connections per day, the Tyrolean capital will be integrated into the “AIRail” service with hourly connections.

“We are delighted that we will be able to expand the established and popular ‘AIRail’ service once again from 15 December and thus further intensify our multimodal transport partnership with ÖBB. We are thus taking another important step towards the best possible connection of the federal states to the Vienna hub. For many years, ‘AIRail’ has been a popular option for our passengers from the federal states to conveniently travel by train to Vienna Airport and then take off with Austrian Airlines to their desired destinations,” emphasizes Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl.

“Intermodal travel is on trend – this is happily reflected in the increase in passengers who choose to travel to and from Vienna Airport by train. With the AIRail extension to the destination Innsbruck, we are taking this development into account and thus expanding the joint offer with Austrian Airlines, which has enjoyed great popularity for 10 years now”, says Sabine Stock, ÖBB Executive Board Member for Passenger Transport.
