Austrian Airlines remains committed to continuously expanding its route network with new destinations in the summer schedule 2025. “Last summer, the demand for destinations in the cooler north increased significantly. Exciting new destinations in the cool north – and on the Black Sea coast
Heat-weary travelers can find new travel inspirations for their summer planning 2025 thanks to Austrian Airlines. From 3 June to 27 September 2025, the red-white-red airline will fly from Vienna to the Scottish capital Edinburgh every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The city, with nearly half a million inhabitants, is a tip for all city trip fans and offers an attractive mix of history, culture, architecture, and festivals, as well as a lively and colorful pub scene, especially in summer. For those with a bit more time, it is the ideal and uncomplicated starting point for tours in the Low-, Mid-, or even Highlands – all with moderate temperatures, a cool sea breeze, and the occasional typical rain shower even in high summer.
A stiff breeze is also typical for the chic Sylt – the German North Sea Island is easily accessible from Vienna from 28 June to 6 September 2025, with flights every Saturday. Beach fans will rejoice over nearly 40 kilometers of fine beaches, water sports enthusiasts will be thrilled with consistently good winds, and the glamour factor is not lacking in the popular restaurants and chic bars of Westerland or Kampen.
In contrast, the northern Norwegian Lofoten islands with the destination airport Harstad-Narvik in the Evenes region offer a completely different flair. The mix of wild natural beauty, historical sites, and outdoor adventures makes it an interesting travel destination for those who can’t handle summer heat and hustle. Austrian Airlines will fly “far north” from Vienna every Friday from 30 May to 29 August 2025. “We expect that these three new destinations, combined with already established classics in the north such as Tromsø and Reykjavik, will ideally complement our portfolio for those who really want to cool down,” says Trestl.
With Burgas, Austrian Airlines adds a vibrant, up-and-coming city on the Black Sea coast as the fourth new destination to the summer program – three times a week from 19 June 2025, every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from Vienna to Burgas. On-site, expansive parks and nature reserves with numerous lakes will delight visitors – and all sandcastle fans should not miss the annual “Sand Sculpture Festival” in Burgas’ “Sea Garden.”
Classic summer destinations planned – and long-haul destinations beckon with 18 destinations
Thus, the summer schedule 2025 includes 104 destinations on short and medium-haul routes and 18 long-haul destinations. This also includes the recently launched connection Linz – Frankfurt into summer 2025.
“Austrian vacationers are Mediterranean fans – and here we clearly play to our strengths in summer 2025. For example, we have 19 destinations in Greece, twelve in Italy (mainland, islands), ten in Spain (mainland, Canary Islands, and Balearic Islands), and four in Croatia,” says Trestl.
Those who want to travel far in the summer can choose from 18 existing long-haul destinations that Austrian Airlines flies directly to: in Africa, Cairo year-round, Mauritius and Marrakech seasonally; in Asia, Bangkok, Tokyo, Shanghai year-round, and Malé seasonally; in North America, Boston, New York (Newark and JFK), Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Montreal in Canada year-round.
Subject to further developments in the Middle East, connections to Amman, Erbil, Tehran, and Tel Aviv are also planned in the summer schedule. Currently, flights to Tehran (until 30 November 2024) and Tel Aviv (until 25 November 2024) are still suspended.
