Summer, Sun and Vacation: Start the Holidays with Austrian Airlines

Service, Product, Awards

• Austrian Airlines handles up to 35,000 passengers each day in the peak tourist season
• Timely arrival at the airport and use of online services are recommended
• Ice cream initiative on Austrian Airlines charter flights from Vienna on June 29-30, 2019 at the start of the holiday season

This Friday, around 450,000 school pupils in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland begin their well-deserved summer holidays. Pupils in the other federal provinces commence their summer vacations one week later. Accordingly, the travel season for Austrian Airlines also reaches its climax during this period. On peak days, the home-carrier handles some 35,000 Austrian passengers throughout the country.

Austrian Airlines recommends an early arrival at the airport to ensure a stress-free start into the summer holiday. In this way, there will be sufficient time before departure, even in the case of increased passenger volumes at check-in or security checks. Austrian Airlines further advises all passengers to make use of the online services offered to save valuable time. For example, seats can already be conveniently selected at home 47 hours before departure via the Web Check-in service. Passengers travelling on the City Airport Train (CAT) can already drop off their luggage at Vienna’s “Wien Mitte” train station for Austrian Airlines flights leaving from Vienna. The flight status can be checked at any time via “My Bookings”.

Use online services and save time
Austrian Airlines is prepared for the upcoming wave of travelers and has increased the number of employees at the airports. In addition, Austrian Airlines self-service baggage drop-off machines are in operation in order to minimize waiting times at the baggage check-in at Vienna Airport. Passengers receive the required baggage labels at the check-in machines. To enable quicker security checking procedures and boarding it is important to adhere to hand luggage guidelines. Passengers can find all the necessary information on the Austrian Airlines Website.

Chatbot “Maria” helps in case of irregularities and inquiries
The chatbot “Maria” is available to passengers in case of flight irregularities. It can be accessed via Facebook Messenger under “Austrian Airlines Chatbot” or by entering austrian.com/bot in the browser (triggering automatic forwarding to Messenger). The new digital customer service complements the existing offering of online services. In addition to providing information on the flight status, hand luggage guidelines and more, the chatbot enables passengers to rebook flights themselves with just a few clicks if the flights were cancelled or missed.

No end of school without a special holiday campaign!
A small surprise for our passengers should not be missing at the start of the summer holidays. For this reason, there will be a quiz for children at the first holiday weekend held at Gate F of Vienna Airport, in which the kids can win small non-cash prizes. In line with the beginning of the holidays, our passengers on the ground and in the air can get into the right mood in a suitable manner. About 10,600 ice-creams will be available in the lounges at Vienna Airport on June 27 and June 28, 2019, and on 49 charter flights departing from Vienna on June 29 and June 30, 2019. Passengers can in general expect a high level of service on board Austrian Airlines charter flights. Every passenger is entitled to take 23 kilograms of baggage, 8 kilograms carry-on luggage, catering from Do & Co as well as print and online magazines at no additional cost to ensure that the summer vacation already begins on board.
