A piece of aviation history for a good cause: Austrian Airlines auctions plane seats and flight trolleys

  • Total proceeds from the auction will be donated to Nachbar in Not
  • Joint initiative between Austrian Airlines and online-auction house AURENA
  • Starting today, bidding is possible
  • Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl: “With this charity project we want to make at least a small contribution to ease the suffering of the Ukrainian people.”

There are things, money just can’t buy. But starting today, there is the unique chance to snatch a piece of Austrian aviation history and thereby help people in need. Austrian Airlines auctions several no longer required and written-off Economy Class plane seats from its Boeing 767-fleet, as well as more than 170 flight trolleys. The seats were predominantly in service on transatlantic flights and were removed in course of a cabin modification and replaced by Premium Economy Class seats. The starting price for the double and triple rows vary between 240 to 360 Euros.

Special opportunity for collectors and aviation enthusiasts

In addition, more than 170 flight trolleys originating from Austrian Airlines’ fleet will come under the hammer. Those trolleys have already seen the world and are now waiting for new purposes – as a nice piece of furniture, bar trolleys or sturdy toolboxes. The trolleys will have a starting price of 50 Euros.

Auction for a good cause

In cooperation with the auction house AURENA, Austrian Airlines will donate all proceeds from the auction to NGO Nachbar in Not to support people in Ukraine.

Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl: “As the red-white-red flag-carrier, which has been connecting Austria with Europe and the world for more than 60 years, we are very pleased to share a piece of aviation history – and thereby help people in need. With this charity project we want to make at least a small contribution to ease the suffering of the Ukrainian people.”

Technical Director of AURENA Jürgen Blematl: “We are more than happy to provide aurena.com for this extraordinary initiative by Austrian Airlines. Thereby, our bidders have the opportunity to bring a true to original airline-exhibit to their living rooms and do something good at the same time”.

Martina Schloffer, Dep. Head of International Cooperation at Austrian Red Cross: “We thank Austrian Airlines and AURENA for this charitable project for the benefit of Nachbar in Not. Millions of people are currently suffering and depend on humanitarian aid. The donations will allow us to facilitate needs-based assistance, like water, food supplies, hygiene products or medicines.”
