Austrian Airlines is Austria’s largest airline, operating a worldwide network. A special focus has been set on central and Eastern Europe. Just over 6,000 employees ensure that actual an average of around 320 flights take off and arrive at their destination safely, every day. Hence, Austrian Airlines is the biggest employer within Eastern Austria. The current fleet consists of 11 long-haul (Boeing 787, 777 & 767) and 57 short & medium-haul (Airbus A320 Family & Embraer 195) aircraft.
The year 2024 marks a decisive step for Austrian Airlines in the continuous modernization and capacity expansion of its long-haul fleet. Two new Dreamliners – Boeing 787-9s – have already entered regular service this summer. Over the next four years, a further nine Boeing 787-9 aircraft will be integrated into Austrian Airlines’ long-haul fleet.
Four brand-new A320neo aircraft have also been integrated into the fleet since 2022. Like the Dreamliner, this aircraft type is characterized by more efficient fuel consumption and lower noise emissions compared to its predecessor model and also increases travel comfort for passengers on short- and medium-haul routes thanks to the innovative Airspace Cabin.
Vienna Hub
Due to its favorable geographical position in the heart of Europe, the home base Vienna is an ideal hub between East and West. Austrian Airlines operates a global route network of more than 120 destinations and connects Austria with Europe and the whole world via its Vienna Hub.

As Austria’s home airline, Austrian Airlines is of great importance to Austrian tourism. The red-white-red home carrier stands for the highest quality of service and a responsible approach to the environment and society. Austrian Airlines has committed to halving its net CO2 emissions by 2030 and flying CO2-neutral by 2050. Austrian Airlines’ environmental management has been validated according to the EMAS standard since 2023.
Austrian Airlines is part of the Lufthansa Group, Europe’s largest airline network. Together with 25 other airlines, Austrian is a member of the Star Alliance, the world’s first global network of international airlines.
